Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and may help authors improve their papers through editorial communications.

Promptness

Referees who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or cannot complete a prompt review should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and not shared with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively with clear, supporting arguments. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and note any substantial similarities between the manuscript under review and other published papers they know of.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Information obtained through peer review must remain confidential and not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors of original research should present:

  • Accurate accounts of the work performed

  • Retain data for a reasonable time after publication

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure their work is entirely original, appropriately citing or quoting others' work when used.

Authorship should be limited to those making significant contributions to the:

  • Conception

Authors must clearly identify any unusual hazards involved in their research materials, procedures, or equipment.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors should disclose any financial or substantive conflicts of interest that might influence their results or interpretation. All financial support sources should be disclosed.
