Publication Ethics

PUBLICATION ETHICS

Al-Mumtaz: Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal promotes responsible scholarly communication, transparency, fairness, accountability, and respect for intellectual property throughout the publication process. These principles apply to editors, editorial board members, peer reviewers, authors, and all parties involved in the preparation, evaluation, and publication of manuscripts.

The journal expects all participants in the publication process to adhere to recognized principles of responsible research and scholarly publishing. Editorial and review procedures are designed to support the quality, originality, relevance, and integrity of published scholarship in Islamic education management and related fields. Publication decisions must be based on the scholarly merit of a manuscript and must not be influenced by personal relationships, financial interests, institutional affiliations, political considerations, or other inappropriate factors.

1. PRINCIPLES OF PUBLICATION ETHICS

All parties involved in the publication process are expected to uphold the following principles:

  • Integrity and honesty in research, manuscript preparation, peer review, and editorial decision-making.
  • Originality and proper acknowledgment of the ideas, data, words, and contributions of others.
  • Fair, objective, and confidential assessment of submitted manuscripts.
  • Transparency concerning authorship, funding, conflicts of interest, research methods, and relevant ethical approvals.
  • Accountability for the accuracy and reliability of published work, including the correction of errors when necessary.
  • Respect for research participants, applicable ethical standards, and relevant institutional and legal requirements.

2. EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The editor-in-chief and editorial team are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are handled professionally, fairly, and consistently with the journal's editorial policies. Editorial decisions must be based on the manuscript's originality, academic quality, methodological soundness, relevance to the journal's scope, contribution to the field, and compliance with publication ethics.

Editors must evaluate manuscripts without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, nationality, institutional affiliation, political opinion, or other personal characteristics unrelated to scholarly merit. The identity, status, or institutional prestige of an author must not improperly influence editorial judgment.

Editors are responsible for selecting appropriately qualified reviewers, protecting confidential information, managing conflicts of interest, and communicating editorial decisions clearly. They must not use unpublished information obtained through manuscript handling for personal advantage or research purposes without the author's explicit permission.

Where allegations of misconduct arise, editors must assess the available evidence carefully and provide relevant parties with an appropriate opportunity to respond. When necessary, the editorial team may consult reviewers, authors, institutional representatives, or other appropriate parties before determining further action.

3. PEER REVIEWERS' RESPONSIBILITIES

Peer reviewers contribute to the integrity and quality of the journal by providing objective, constructive, evidence-based, and timely evaluations. Reviews should assess the manuscript's originality, theoretical contribution, research design, analytical rigor, interpretation of findings, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the journal's scope.

Reviewers must treat all manuscripts and associated materials as confidential documents. They must not share, reproduce, exploit, or disclose unpublished content without authorization. Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited and notify the editor of any substantial similarity to other publications or any concerns regarding research integrity.

Reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that could affect their impartiality. They should decline an invitation when they lack the necessary expertise, cannot complete the review within the agreed period, or have a relationship or competing interest that could compromise the fairness of their assessment.

Personal criticism, discriminatory language, hostile comments, and unsupported allegations are unacceptable. Reviewer comments should focus on the scholarly content of the manuscript and provide clear reasons for recommendations made to the editor.

4. AUTHORS' RESPONSIBILITIES

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work, accurately report research findings, and acknowledge all relevant sources. Manuscripts must present methods, data, analyses, and conclusions honestly and sufficiently transparently to enable appropriate scholarly assessment.

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal or publish substantially the same work in multiple outlets without appropriate disclosure and justification. Duplicate publication, redundant publication, fabricated data, falsified findings, manipulated results, and misleading reporting are considered serious breaches of publication ethics.

All individuals listed as authors must have made a meaningful scholarly contribution to the work, participated sufficiently in its preparation or revision, approved the final version, and accepted accountability for their contributions. Individuals who do not meet the criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors; their contributions may instead be acknowledged where appropriate and with their permission.

Authors must ensure that citations and references are accurate and complete, that quotations are clearly identified, and that the ideas and contributions of other researchers are properly acknowledged. Any use of third-party material must comply with applicable copyright and permission requirements.

Authors are expected to disclose relevant funding sources, institutional support, and actual or potential conflicts of interest. They must also cooperate with reasonable editorial requests for clarification, supporting documentation, data verification, or corrections when questions arise concerning the integrity of their work.

5. RESEARCH ETHICS AND PROTECTION OF PARTICIPANTS

Research involving human participants must be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical principles, institutional requirements, and relevant laws and regulations. Where required, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate research ethics committee or institutional review board before conducting the research and must provide accurate information about such approval in the manuscript.

Authors must obtain informed consent where applicable and take appropriate measures to protect participants' privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and welfare. Personally identifiable information must not be disclosed unless there is a lawful and ethically justified basis for doing so and the necessary consent or authorization has been obtained.

Research involving children, vulnerable individuals, sensitive personal information, or other circumstances requiring additional safeguards must include appropriate protective measures. If ethical approval is not required for a particular study, authors should explain the basis for that determination when relevant. The journal may request further information to assess compliance with applicable research ethics requirements.

Authors conducting research in educational institutions or organizational settings should respect applicable permissions, participant rights, and confidentiality obligations. Research involving animals, biological materials, or other regulated subjects must comply with the relevant ethical and legal standards where applicable.

6. PLAGIARISM, ORIGINALITY, AND MISCONDUCT

Plagiarism is the presentation of another person's words, ideas, data, arguments, or other intellectual contributions as one's own without appropriate acknowledgment. This includes direct copying without quotation or attribution, inadequate paraphrasing, unattributed use of research materials, and other forms of misappropriation of intellectual work.

Self-plagiarism or redundant reuse of previously published material must be disclosed and handled appropriately. Reuse of an author's own text, data, figures, or findings does not remove the obligation to provide transparent disclosure and proper citation where required. Authors must not conceal substantial overlap with their previous publications.

The journal may screen submitted manuscripts using plagiarism-detection software and may conduct additional editorial checks when necessary. Similarity reports are considered supporting evidence rather than conclusive proof of misconduct; editorial assessment must take into account the nature, context, attribution, and extent of the identified overlap.

Other forms of research or publication misconduct include fabrication or falsification of data, manipulation of images or research results, inappropriate authorship practices, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and deliberate misrepresentation of research procedures or findings. Allegations will be assessed fairly and confidentially, with appropriate opportunities for explanation and response.

7. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

A conflict of interest may arise when personal, professional, institutional, financial, or other relationships could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, the preparation, review, or publication of a manuscript. All parties involved in the publication process must disclose relevant conflicts as early as possible.

Authors must disclose relevant competing interests in their submissions. Reviewers must inform the editor of circumstances that could compromise their impartiality and decline the review when necessary. Editors must not handle manuscripts in which they have a conflict that could undermine an independent decision and should arrange for an appropriately independent editor to manage such cases.

Disclosure of a conflict of interest does not automatically imply misconduct or prevent publication. The journal will assess the nature and significance of the disclosed interest and determine whether additional safeguards or disclosures are necessary to preserve the integrity of the editorial process.

8. CONFIDENTIALITY AND DATA PROTECTION

Manuscripts under consideration, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, and unpublished research information must be handled confidentially. Access to these materials should be limited to individuals who require them for legitimate editorial or review purposes, subject to applicable policies and legal obligations.

Personal information collected during submission, peer review, and publication must be processed responsibly and used only for legitimate journal-related purposes. Editors, reviewers, and other authorized personnel must not disclose confidential information or use it for personal, professional, or commercial advantage.

9. EDITORIAL ACTIONS AND HANDLING OF MISCONDUCT

When a potential breach of publication ethics is identified, the journal will evaluate the concern in a proportionate, impartial, and evidence-based manner. The process may include reviewing relevant documents, consulting independent experts, requesting an explanation from the authors, or contacting an appropriate institution when justified and necessary.

Depending on the seriousness and circumstances of the case, possible actions may include requesting clarification, requiring revisions, rejecting a manuscript, correcting the published record, issuing an expression of concern, or retracting an article. The journal may also take other appropriate steps consistent with its policies and applicable ethical standards.

Editorial action must be proportionate to the evidence and the nature of the concern. Authors should be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to allegations where appropriate. Confidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible, while allowing the journal to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

10. CORRECTIONS, RETRACTIONS, AND POST-PUBLICATION CONCERNS

The journal is committed to preserving the accuracy and reliability of the scholarly record. If a published article contains a material error, the editorial team will assess the issue and determine whether a correction or another appropriate notice is required.

Retraction may be considered when there is reliable evidence of serious research or publication misconduct, substantial unreliability of findings, redundant publication, or another significant problem that compromises the integrity of the article. An expression of concern may be considered when a serious issue requires further investigation and the available evidence is not yet sufficient for a definitive conclusion.

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retraction notices should clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for the action to the extent appropriate. The journal will aim to ensure that the publication record remains transparent and that readers are informed of significant changes to the status or reliability of published work.

11. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND AUTHORSHIP

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical acceptability of submitted manuscripts, including material prepared with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. AI tools must not be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or fulfill the obligations of authorship.

Where the use of AI tools has materially contributed to the generation or analysis of text, data, images, or other research content, authors should disclose that use in an appropriate section of the manuscript, consistent with the nature of the contribution and the journal's applicable requirements. AI-generated references, quotations, data, and factual statements must be checked for accuracy and must not be presented as verified when they have not been independently confirmed.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate evidence, manipulate research results, misrepresent authorship, or compromise the confidentiality of manuscripts under review. Editors and reviewers should not upload confidential manuscript content to external AI systems unless the use is authorized and consistent with applicable confidentiality, privacy, and journal policies.

12. COMMITMENT TO FAIRNESS AND ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Al-Mumtaz: Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam is committed to providing a fair, transparent, and responsible publication environment. Editors and reviewers must evaluate manuscripts on their academic merit without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, political affiliation, or other considerations unrelated to scholarly quality and ethical compliance.

The journal encourages authors, reviewers, readers, and other members of the academic community to report credible concerns regarding published or submitted work. Such concerns will be considered seriously and handled with appropriate discretion, impartiality, and respect for due process.

Through the consistent implementation of these principles, Al-Mumtaz: Jurnal Manajemen Pendidikan Islam seeks to contribute to trustworthy scholarship, responsible academic practice, and the advancement of knowledge in Islamic education management and related disciplines.
