Repository Policy

Repository Policy

CREATE: Contemporary Research in Education and Teaching supports the broad dissemination, accessibility, preservation, and responsible reuse of scholarly research. In accordance with its open-access publishing principles, CREATE permits authors to deposit and make available versions of their articles in institutional repositories, subject-based repositories, academic databases, personal or institutional websites, and other appropriate repositories of their choice.

The journal supports self-archiving of the Submitted Version, Accepted Version, and Published Version of an article, subject to the conditions specified in this policy. CREATE does not impose an embargo period for author self-archiving of these versions.

1. Purpose of the Repository Policy

This Repository Policy is intended to facilitate the long-term preservation and dissemination of scholarly work published in CREATE. By permitting authors to deposit their manuscripts in repositories and other appropriate locations, the journal seeks to increase the visibility, discoverability, accessibility, and potential scholarly impact of published research.

Repository-based dissemination also contributes to the preservation of the scholarly record and supports researchers, educators, students, institutions, and the wider academic community in accessing published research.

2. Versions Permitted for Deposit

CREATE permits authors to deposit the following versions of their articles:

2.1 Submitted Version

The Submitted Version is the manuscript originally submitted by the author to CREATE before the peer-review and editorial revision process. Authors may deposit this version in an institutional repository, subject repository, personal academic website, or another appropriate repository without an embargo.

2.2 Accepted Version

The Accepted Version is the manuscript that has successfully completed the peer-review and editorial process and has been formally accepted for publication, including revisions required as part of that process. Authors may deposit the Accepted Version without an embargo.

2.3 Published Version

The Published Version is the final version of the article as formally published by CREATE, including the journal's final formatting, bibliographic information, pagination or article identification details, DOI where applicable, and other publication metadata. Authors may deposit and share the Published Version without an embargo, subject to the applicable Creative Commons license and the conditions of this policy.

3. Embargo Policy

CREATE applies no embargo period to the deposit and dissemination of the Submitted Version, Accepted Version, or Published Version of articles published by the journal. Authors may therefore make permitted versions of their articles available immediately following submission, acceptance, or publication, as applicable.

The absence of an embargo reflects CREATE's commitment to open scholarly communication and the broad dissemination of research findings. Authors should nevertheless ensure that deposited materials comply with the applicable licensing, copyright, privacy, and ethical requirements.

4. Permitted Repository Locations

Authors may deposit permitted versions of their articles in appropriate locations, including:

  • Institutional or university repositories;
  • Subject-based or disciplinary repositories;
  • National or international scholarly repositories;
  • Author's personal or professional academic website;
  • Institutional departmental or faculty websites;
  • The official CREATE journal website; and
  • Other reputable repositories or scholarly platforms that permit legally compliant academic dissemination.
5. Licensing

Articles published by CREATE are distributed under the applicable Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license, unless otherwise stated in the individual publication agreement or article record.

Under the CC BY-SA license, users may share, copy, redistribute, and adapt the work, including for permitted commercial purposes, provided that appropriate attribution is given and adaptations are distributed under the same or a compatible licensing framework as required by the license.

The applicable license can be accessed through the official Creative Commons website: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) .

6. Copyright Ownership

Unless otherwise specified in the applicable publication agreement, authors retain copyright ownership of their scholarly work. Authors grant CREATE the necessary rights to publish, distribute, preserve, index, and make the article available through the journal's publishing platform and associated scholarly communication systems.

The retention of copyright by authors enables them to exercise the repository and self-archiving rights provided under this policy while maintaining appropriate attribution to the original publication in CREATE.

7. Attribution and Citation Requirement

Any version of an article deposited in a repository should acknowledge the original publication in CREAT. Authors and repository administrators are encouraged to include the complete bibliographic citation and, where available, the article's DOI or persistent link to the official journal publication.

At a minimum, the repository record should identify the article title, author or authors, journal title, publication year, and the original source of publication. Where available, the DOI should also be included to facilitate reliable citation and access to the official version of record.

8. Conditions for Repository Deposit

Authors depositing their work under this policy are responsible for ensuring that the deposited material accurately represents the version identified in the repository record. Authors should avoid presenting a Submitted or Accepted Version as though it were the final Published Version unless the deposited file is in fact the official version of record.

Repository records should, where technically possible, provide a clear link to the official CREATE publication. This helps readers identify the authoritative version and supports accurate citation, indexing, and scholarly attribution.

9. Integrity of the Published Record

Repository copies are intended to support dissemination and preservation and should not be used to alter, misrepresent, or otherwise compromise the integrity of the scholarly record. Any substantial correction, retraction, expression of concern, or other post-publication action issued by CREATE should be reflected in the repository record where reasonably possible.

The official CREATE website and the published version of record remain authoritative sources for the journal's final publication metadata and any formal post-publication notices.

10. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that repository deposits comply with this policy and with applicable legal, ethical, institutional, and licensing requirements. Authors should ensure that the deposited article contains accurate bibliographic information and appropriate acknowledgement of the original CREATE publication.

Authors should also ensure that any third-party materials included in their manuscript are deposited and redistributed only where the author has the necessary rights or permissions. Third-party content may be subject to copyright or licensing restrictions that differ from those applicable to the article as a whole.

11. Recommended Repository Citation

When depositing an article, authors are encouraged to provide a citation similar to the following format:

Author(s). (Year). Title of the article. CREATE: Contemporary Research in Education and Teaching, Volume(Issue), page/article number. DOI or official journal URL.

Repository administrators and users are encouraged to cite the official published version whenever it is available.

13. Commitment to Open Scholarly Communication

CREATE recognizes repository-based self-archiving as an important component of contemporary scholarly communication. By allowing authors to deposit all permitted versions of their articles without an embargo, the journal seeks to support equitable access to research, strengthen academic collaboration, facilitate knowledge exchange, and improve the visibility and discoverability of scholarly publications.

This policy is intended to complement the journal's open-access, copyright, licensing, and digital preservation policies. CREATE may periodically review and update its repository policy to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, repository standards, licensing practices, indexing requirements, and digital preservation.
